They also come with carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it spots an abundance of dirt on the carpet in order to get it clean quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.

It's still a good deal for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and works while you are at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you have to change the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and Best Robot Hoover vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combo makes use of advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to take off and extend its mop. This will help prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the entire house with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line, and it nimbly avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot vacuum cleaner best that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot cleaner with mop we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit which could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and look better. If you're willing to live some more volume and a little more cost this is a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the home based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home by using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have lot furniture. Also the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It's a pro at cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It features an impressive 8000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have test. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
