The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and will leave your floors spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are great features.

The robots also have a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to offer better cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones with the well-designed app. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when it's in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a good job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robotic cleaner and mop vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most appealing looking in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot auto vacuum and mop/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuum best we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some extra cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Finally the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
