WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, Item Level upgrade and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the Item Level Upgrade however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new gear. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, item level upgrade while buying a similar item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool using the help of button, which displays an image of the item at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currencies.

Many locations offer item upgraders which include the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting a new recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items being upgraded, and can be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item level upgrade upgrader at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via several methods that are both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was altered a bit, with several new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a particular item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading further items to that same Best item upgrader level will be less expensive, even if they belong to a different gear set.

Crests

Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only available for equipment of a certain rank. Each rank has distinct upgrade paths. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade can require up to 20 crests, based on the type or gear that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests with care, since they have only one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the Best item upgrade equipment you have, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly applicable to items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The discount on the account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
