Robots that vacuum and mop provide the convenience of cleaning dry debris (dust dirt, grit) and wet mess (spills or staining) in one session without the need to change devices. They also can save space when compared to two separate units, particularly in smaller living spaces.

A good combination bot will offer excellent navigation and obstacles avoidance. Look for models that have docks that allow them to automatically empty their bins, fill their water tanks, and wash the mopping pads.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It has a lot to offer for its relatively modest price and is among the easiest robots we've tested to install. Unpacking is easy and the quick-start guide will have you up and running in no time. It comes with the complete dust bag, water tank and hard floor solution.

The S1 Pro is a powerful little machine that is able to clean up a storm and vacuums well too. The mops spin at fast speeds and apply 2.2 pounds (1kg) of force, which makes short work of pet hair, dirt, and dried sticky spills. The vacuum has four power modes, a selection of brushes and attachments, and a user-friendly app that lets you select the type of cleaning you'd like to have for each room.

For instance, you could choose to have the robot vacuum cleaners uk do a deep clean in the living and kitchen but go easy on the spare bedroom. The S1 Pro has excellent front collision sensors and smart navigation technology. It is able to detect small obstacles that other models can't. The only issue it has is that it tends to crash into walls and objects at full speed - but an instant glance at the cleaning history within the app will show you exactly what it's doing as well as where it's heading, and which obstacles it's run into or avoided.

A handy LCD screen on the docking station tells the maintenance tasks that are required like emptying the debris tray and rinsing its dirty water tank. It's also capable of mixing detergent automatically into the water tank by using a 600ml bottle filled with the eufy's solution.

Both the S1 Pro mop and vacuum come with a long-running time. The mop can operate for 184 mins in Quiet Mode, and the vacuum can run for 136 minutes in normal mode, before needing recharging or returning to the base. You can also view the full cleaning details in the app, which is intuitively laid out and easy to understand, though we would have liked to be able to distinguish between a vacuum only or mop and vacuum clean when looking at a cleaned area in the history of cleaning.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the most recent version of the company's most popular robot hoover and mop mop and vacuum. It's not like the model from last year, this one features a double agitator in its mopping pad, which significantly improves its carpet cleaning capabilities. The S8 Pro Ultra also has enhanced suction power, which allows it to remove fine hairs and other debris that other robotic cleaners may overlook.

As with the other two Roborock models I've tested the S8 Pro Ultra has a reactive 3D obstacle avoidance and infrared technology that help it avoid walls, furniture and other obstacles. The S8 Pro Ultra goes one step further by incorporating dual cameras that can detect objects, determining whether they're walls or other surfaces. It will then automatically alter its path and clean the objects without a pause.

It's the most expensive model I've tested and it comes with the most features. Its sleek, angular style is striking and only has three physical buttons that include the power button which also resumes cleaning; a mop-only switch that doubles as a child lock; and a home button to send the best robot vacuum back to its dock. The hinged lid opens up to reveal a 350ml dustbin and 200ml water tank. The water tank automatically empties and the bin auto-refills.

The only issue I have found with this model is that the VibraRise mop pad mount isn't removable. While you can swap out the mopping cloth (if necessary) but it's a challenge to take off the mount to wash it manually. I've noticed that any plush carpet that the robot touches will come into contact with the Velcro-like fastener system on the mount, and can cause abrasions.

The S8 Pro Ultra is equipped with a number clever features including support for Google Home and Amazon Alexa. You can set up and manage these through the Roborock app which is also home to its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app allows you to schedule cleanings, monitor the battery life and maintain your components. You'll have to go through some hoops to activate voice control on this model. It's a shame considering how well-performing it is otherwise.

3. Dreame X40

The Dreame X40 is an industry-leading robot vacuum and mop that has incredible suction power, sophisticated mowing capabilities, and a variety of innovative features. Its intelligent design allows for customised and efficient cleaning while also saving time.

The X40 is the first robotic vacuum cleaner that can deliver 12,000 Pascals of cleaning power, which makes it one of the most effective options available. This powerful vacuum cleans up dry mess, including pet hair and dust. It also has a high-quality mop that leaves hard floors sparkling clean, even without a wet pad. Additionally the X40 is very quiet during its operation, with only occasional bursts of noise when switching modes or when completing self-maintenance tasks.

The X40 has a side brush that is able to be lifted and extended. This allows it to reach into corners that are hard to reach and clean furniture that is curved such as table and chair legs. It can be controlled using the Dreame App or Alexa, Siri, or Google Home to ensure that voice-controlled operations are smooth and easy.

The app is simple to use and understand and the X40 has many smart features that are easy to configure. Users can program the X40 to clean at certain times. They can also adjust suction power, alter modes, look at floor plans and maps, and control mopping settings. The X40 can also track its progress and notify you when it's finished.

The X40 is easy to maintain and comes with many convenient features that make it an excellent choice for busy families. The docking station automatically empty the trash bin into a 3.2 L bin, cleans the mop pads, and refills them with clean water and a cleaning solution. It can also tell when the mop pad is filled and notify you when it overflows, thus reducing the need for manual maintenance.

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a high-end robot that's one of the most expensive models available and comes with many extra features that make it stand out. The mops come with a brand new feature called Smart DuoScrub that makes use of two mops with high-speed motors to scrub floors more thoroughly than the conventional method, and has the highest suction power of 7,000Pa. This is much higher than the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra or Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni, and it can vacuum up pet hair and smaller dirt particles - as well as picking up spills and wet spots.

The mops are cleaned and dried at the base station each time they are used. This is a great feature as it keeps mould and unpleasant odours from accumulating in storage. It also makes the mop system more efficient. This is a system we've yet to see on other robot vacuum and mop models, and it could be a great way of keeping your home hygienic for longer.

There are many options, including the ability to schedule cleanings and adjust preferences. The app lets you define these preferences, or make use of the buttons on the device itself. The app is simple to use and offers many options to customize the cleaning routine, and there are many features that other robots do not have - such as the Clean Genius mode that automatically boosts suction power when it detects dust particles, instead of relying on a manual setting.

The L20 Ultra is also one of the most elegant robots we've seen on market, sporting a white and metallic design that is elegant and stylish. It's a bit heavier at 4kg than the other robots on this list, but it's still not excessively heavy. It feels solid and well-built. The mopping design is also excellent, and the double rotating mops work well on hard floors as well as in corners. The MopExtend feature lets them extend up to 2mm below the baseboards.
