Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they employ smart mapping to produce precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like furniture leg. The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also extremely quiet and works while you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and Best robot Hoover stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum cleaners best vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a great cleaning job on various floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units This robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.

It's also a bit costly, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing some more volume and some extra cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty those areas tend to be.

For larger houses it's recommended to choose a model with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home via the app or voice controls. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto vacuum and mop-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up an automatic hoover spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
