One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, however it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. 3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has 100% in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to sleep.

It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app also provides access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
