The Blitz throughout the Second World War, vapesaft via the sheer scale of bombing and destruction of buildings and the encompassing landscape, revealed quite a few components of the London Wall. This revealed parts of the wall unseen for over 300 years because the rubble of buildings destroyed around it were removed. Several sections, including this one, have been preserved by being included into later buildings. Some wards - Aldersgate, vapecigarette Bishopsgate and Cripplegate - cowl an area that was each within and outside the wall; though not break up into separate wards, typically the half (or "division") inside the Wall is denoted (on maps, ezigarettengunstig in documents, and so on.) as being "within" and the part outside the Wall as being "without".

This enlargement led to the suffix phrases "Without" and "Within" which denote whether or not an space of the city - and usually applied to the wards - fell outdoors or inside the London Wall, although solely Farringdon and (previously) Bridge have been split into separate wards this fashion (Bridge Without falling past the gates on London Bridge). As London continued to develop throughout the medieval period, urban growth grew past town partitions.

The format of the Roman and medieval walls have had a profound effect on the event of London, even right down to the present day.

With the exception of a medieval realignment in the Blackfriars' area, ezigarettengunstig the Wall was no longer essential for defence.
